PHP - Store Drop Down Value
how do i get a drop down value and store it in a another table

I am building a website that will contain listings, there will be a categories page which will bring the user to the subcategories for that category then the user can see all listings linked to that subcategory. At the minute I am just linking each page using basic href tags to go to the page name.php and all my pages end up being homepage.com/clickedlink.php.
How do I change my URL's so that if i click on a certain category the url changes to page name.php?category=chosen category?

I am writing a function that will output to the user if a store is open or not.
I wrote a fucntions named is_store_open() with a variable called $day which will have the current day of the week assigned to it.
Lets say it is Saturday. it finds the case for "Saturday" and checks the opening time and closing time for Saturday.
The problem that I am facing, is when the store is open past midnight on Saturday. It then won't check the case for saturday.
Instead will check the case for Sunday. Which is not what I want, becuase it will show the store as closed when its open still open on "Saturday"
I wrote a function below that checks to see if the previous day closing hours are greater then the current time. If its true then return true and I guess that should fix the problem.
But when I wrote that it would give me an error saying that $saturday_close is undefined. I'm guessing its becuase its in a switch satement, and it does not equal to that day.
I'm a little bit confused on how to set this up. If anyone has a suggestion I would really apprecaite your help. Thanks!

If I am making a "Load more comments" button where it loads, lets say 5 more comments each time you click on it, would it be best to use php sessions to store the id of the last comment loaded? And use that to load the next 5?, continually changing the value of the session to the new id? Or is there a better way of doing this? I had been using hidden textfields to do this. I've been doing some research and I was wondering what the best way is to store IP addresses in a MySQL database, and what would be the field type and length? I've seen that you can use the inet_aton() function but supposedly this doesn't support IPv4. So is there a workaround using these functions? Alternatively, if I was to just store the IP address as it is, what type of field and length would I be looking at?
