PHP - Open Html Http:// File And Retrieve <title>
Hello, I am new to the forum and somewhat new to php, nice to meet you all. This is the first time I have ever really scripted with PHP so I'm still learning about all the tools I have and what I have to call things in PHP.
I have a list of urls and as I loop through each one, I'd like to be able to get information from the webpage. The <title> would be a good start. I also want to know the best way for me to compare data I have. I'll show the basic code below, but I successfully go through each url in this text file. I put it in a <ul><li> list just fine. So if $url == http://www.youtube.com/file how is the normal way to check and see if the word "youtube" is in $url? I found preg_match() but I think I'm approaching the whole thing wrong because I get no output. I am an intermediate to somewhat advanced scripter in other languages similar to php, I just need to learn how you do the normal things in PHP. So I'd like to compare a string "youtube" to a variable '$url'. And I would like to be able to grab the title or other info from the file $url. Here is what I have so far. (Recent research showed me how I should do this with an XML file so I will probably change the .txt to .xml) Can you please tell me what to look for as I have been searching and can't really find a comprehensive answer. I changed the whole page to an echo trying to fix something last night. Before it was written like.. Code: [Select] <?php if ($true) { $var = value ?> <html code>The value is <?php $var ?> .</html code> <?php } ?> Code: [Select] /index.php <?php include 'include/header.html'; echo "<div id='wrapper'> <div id='left'> <div class='article'> <br /> <p>"; echo "Today is " . date("l") . ", the " . date("jS") . " of " . date("F") . "."; $lines = file('data/news.txt'); if ($lines){ foreach ($lines as $line_num => $line) { $url = htmlspecialchars($line); //Now I have url. I want to check the url and get the <title> & misc. data. //if youtube is in $url {html code to embed youtube}; //my attempt was $x = file($url); but I got a lot of 404 and 403 errors. //now I fill html. echo "<ul id='menu1' class='auroramenu'> <li><a href='#'>Story ".$line_num."</a> <a style='display: none;' class='aurorashow' href='#'></a> <a style='display: inline;' class='aurorahide' href='#'></a> <ul> <br /> <p>".$url."</p><br /> <li style='text-align:right;'><a href='".$url."' target='_blank'>Read the story.</a> </li> </ul> </li> </ul>"; } } echo "</p><br /> </div> </div> <div id='right'>"; include 'include/sidebar.html'; echo "</div><br class='clr' /></div><br />"; include 'include/footer.html'; ?> Thank you for your help. I'm running this script from a bash shell. Any ideas what might be wrong? Thanks. I am trying to retrieve an xml file from a webservice. I cant use the original server since it gags on non latin characters, unicode?, that is what the LOC says. The other server does work with non latin characters BUT it is too slow with file_get_contents, takes a minute to get anything, so slow you cant even use it in the program. YET, retrieves the xml fast in the browser window. So, what can I do that will work fast like it should? Code: [Select] //original database server, file_get_contents is faster, about 3 to 10 seconds //$request= 'http://z3950.loc.gov:7090/voyager?version=1.1&operation=searchRetrieve'.$query.$test2.'&startRecord='.$offset.'&maximumRecords=20'; //new one that can handle non latin characters //file_get_contents is SLOW, so slow to be unusable, about a minute or more $request='http://lx2.loc.gov:210/LCDB?version=1.1&operation=searchRetrieve'.$query.$test2.'&startRecord='.$offset.'&maximumRecords=20'; $raw_xml = file_get_contents($request); $filename = dirname(__FILE__)."/loc.xml"; $fp = fopen($filename, "w"); fwrite($fp, $raw_xml); fclose ($fp); Have page#1 with thumbs view_thumbs.php , when a thumb is clicked thumb link goes to page#2 which is the video_play.php page(which must play embed codes from xml sheet) Using GET method to identify incoming link from page#1. QUESTION is how can i retrieve file(embed code) from xml to play on page#2 with incoming GET info from page#1? (embeds not you only from you tube, so no youtube solutions only, just retrieve file) I somehow have to fill play video div on page#2/video_play.php according to GET data from page#1/view_thumbs.php First thanks for any help that you can provide. I am somewhat new to PHP and this is the first "Web Service" I have had to create. THE GOAL: I need to pull XML data from another server. This company's API is setup so that you must give an IP and so you can only pull data from server to server instead of client to server. The data is pulled from the API using HTTP requests...very similar to YQL. (in essence the structured query is located in the URL). This API also requires that my server only ping's their server every 10-15 mins, in order to cut down on server requests. The logical thought in my head was to setup: a cron job to run a PHP script every 10 mins. The PHP scripts would then do the following: 1. Make the HTTP request 2. Open an existing file or create one (on my server) 3. Take the returned XML data from the API and write to the newly opened file. 4. Convert that XML to JSON. 5. Save the JSON 6. Cache the JSON file 7. STOP My thought was to use curl and fopen for the first 3 steps. I found a basic script that will do this on PHP.net (as shown below). After that I am pretty much lost on how to proceed. Code: [Select] <?php $ch = curl_init("http://www.example.com/"); $fp = fopen("example_homepage.txt", "w"); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_FILE, $fp); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HEADER, 0); curl_exec($ch); curl_close($ch); fclose($fp); ?> I would REALLY appreciate any help on this. Also, if you have the time to please comment and explain what you are doing in any code examples and why....that would HELP out a lot. I truly want to learn not just grab a snippet and run. So, your comments are vital for me. thank!!! Hi, Im trying to retrieve HTML from a mysql database but nothing i've tried seems to work. The HTML im trying to retrieve is an iframe with a link and styles (code from amazon associates). Im trying to display links to specific products on amazon from the product page on my site. All data about the product is retrieved from the database so i have code to select the amazon link row in my database table but i cant get it to display. It says the html isnt a string so i cant echo it, fair enough. I have tried using the following code: Code: [Select] $get_buylink_sql = "SELECT mobo_buylink FROM mobo WHERE mobo_id = $mobo_id"; $get_buylink_res = mysqli_query($mysqli, $get_buylink_sql) or die(mysqli_error($mysqli)); while ($buylink = mysqli_fetch_array($get_buylink_res)) { echo"<iframe src=\"".$buylink."\" style=\"width:120px;height:240px;\" scrolling=\"no\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" frameborder=\"0\"></iframe>"; } mysqli_free_result($get_buylink_res); mysqli_close($mysqli);I have also tried putting the whole iframe code in the database which didnt work either. The mobo_id variable works fine for retrieving the rest of the data and i need to get the amazon link from the same record. I hope i've put this in a way you can understand, but if not i'll try and explain better and give you a link to my site if needed. Thanks, Alex Hi, My output in html is : Code: [Select] <uL><li id="B1"></li> <li id="B2"></li> <li id="B3"></li> <li id="B4"></li> <li id="B5"></li> <li id="B6"></li> <li id="B7"></li> <li id="B8"></li> <li id="B9"></li> <li id="B10"></li> <li id="B11"></li> <li id="B12" class="active"></li> <li id="B13" class="no"></li> <li id="B14" class="no"></li> <li id="B15" class="no"></li> <li id="B16" class="no"></li> <li id="B17" class="no"></li> <li id="B18" class="no"></li> <li id="B19" class="no"></li> <li id="B20" class="no"></li> </ul> If MySQL query result is equal to `6`, then `<li>` tag with `id` equal to "`B12`" should have class "`active`". All the `<li>` elements occuring after this active element should have class "`no`". This shows images of horizontal rating between `0` and `10` and between 0.5 Example : 0 .5 1 1.5 2 2.5 3 3.5 4 4.5 5 5.5 6 6.5 7 7.5 8 8.5 9 9.5 10 In the example above elements from `0` to `5` will be blue, element `6` will be white and elements from `7` to `10` are black. How could I generate this using PHP and/or MySQL? Thanks, XXXX chirstmas XXXX Hello guys, I am a new programmer and i am building a new website. I would like to give me your advice for the following problem: I want to build a webpage, in which there will be a <div id="book-content"> ...............</div> part. Inside this div i would like to dynamically display pages from a book. Each page will have text, scripting code blocks, blocks with the output of each scripting code, and images. There will be a bar on the left of the webpage in which the user can select which page of the book he wants to load. For example...My web page will look something like this... Code: [Select] <HTML> <HEAD> </HEAD> <BODY> <DIV ID="PAGE-HEADER"> //LOGO OF THE WEB PAGE </DIV> <DIV ID="PAGE-MENU"> //PAGE MENU </DIV> <DIV ID="BOOK-INDEX" WITH FLOAT:LEFT > //HERE A WILL SHOW THE CHAPTERS OF THE BOOK AND THE PAGES OF EACH CHAPTER </DIV> <DIV ID="BOOK-PAGE"> //THE PAGE SELECTED FROM THE PREVIOUS 'BOOK-INDEX' MENU WILL BE DISPLAYED HERE WITH A MYSQL QUERY ****** </DIV> </BODY> </HTML> Then in a mysql database, i would like to have records with a text field, that will contain for example the followng: <h1> Chapter 1: bla bla </h1> <p> in this chapter we will speak about bla bla bla.... </p> <div id="code"> int main() { int x,y; x=2; y=3; x=x+y; } </div> <p> this will outpout the following:</p> <div id="code output"> x=5! </div> I would like to get this html code from the database, and then show it in the <div id=BOOK-PAGE> div. But i dont want to use php eval(). Also, if i store the code to a file and then include it, i will have too may files(equal to the book's number of pages etc 100). Any ideas? I'm creating a report page and can't figure out how to retrieve multiple rows from a table and display them in html. There are 5 data elements in each row and I'm thinking that using a form in the html might be the best way as I'm totally ignorant about tables in html. I'm a newbie to php and can't figure out how to accomplish this. Here's the code that I have so far: <?php $filename = NULL; session_start(); // start of script every time. // setup a path for all of your canned php scripts $php_scripts = '../php/'; // a folder above the web accessible tree // load the pdo connection module require $php_scripts . 'PDO_Connection_Select.php'; //******************************* // Begin the script here // Connect to the database if (!$con = PDOConnect("foxclone")): { echo "Failed to connect to database" ; exit; } else: { $sql = 'SELECT COUNT(IP_ADDRESS) FROM download WHERE FILENAME IS NOT NULL'; $sql1 = 'Update download t2, ip_lookup t1 set t2.country = t1.country, t2.area = t1.area, t2.city = t1.city where ((t2.IP_ADDRESS) = (t1.start_ip) OR (t2.IP_ADDRESS) > (t1.start_ip)) AND ((t2.IP_ADDRESS) = (t1.end_ip) OR (t2.IP_ADDRESS) < (t1.end_ip)) AND (t2.FILENAME is not null and t2.country is null)'; $sql2 = 'SELECT (IP_ADDRESS, FILENAME, country, area, city) from download where FILENAME is not null'; // Update the table $stmt = $con->prepare($sql1); $stmt->execute(); // Get count of rows to be displayed in table $stmt = $con->prepare($sql); $stmt->execute() ; $cnt = $stmt->fetch(PDO::FETCH_NUM); // retrieve one row at a time $i = 1; while($i <= $cnt){ $stmt = $con->prepare($sql2); $row->execute(array('')); // Do I need an array here? // from here on, I'm lost $i++; I'd appreciate any guidance you can provide or understandable tutorials you can point me to.
